Cherries Part Two-SOLD

Part two of the cherry paintings. they really are challenging because theyre so reflective and the skins are transluscent and dark. i still want to do another one (or two) to see if i can nail that cherry skin!

Jeez Mike I think you already nailed it! Beautiful light and sensitive reflections. Really, this is a gem. :)

thanks man! thats the cool thing about cherries. it is a super reflector with that shiny skin. takes a bit of thought on value plan tho'. theyre not really light skinned and not really dark skinned, so it takes a little thought about how youre going to make the subjects stand out. the reflections are in the shadow but they try to trick you into painting them too light. i love a challenge!
see where you sold the thai man. WTG!
hope you and yours had a good Christmas.

Mike- I really like how you captured the purple-y-ness of those cherries and their infinite reflections.

Wonderful.

PS- I made a comment on your boat painting from two posts ago but it never showed up.
But I'll say it again- it was a beaut!
The way you caught the suns' glow and the detail without overdoing is just marvelous.

thanks for the nice words. the boat almost didnt get painted because usually if i dont finish it that day (or week at the most) i lose interest and usually move on to something else, leaving that one in the corner of the studio. i grabbed this one and banged out the last 25% using a digital.
may start getting 75% of big ones (bigger than 12x16) done plein air and finish in the studio. been looking for a way to make rainy, cloudy or cold days profitable. maybe this summer i'll start a couple dozen and finish them when the weathers bad.
the ones i do 100% in the studio seem so tight to me so i dont like studio painting. but finishing the loosy goosey start i do 75% of outside, could be the answer to all my problems.
hope your Christmas was all you had hoped for. have a great new year in 09!
