For some reason i love overpasses. always drawn to the color and value contrasts plus the fact that some of them are very strong images against a soft landscape. they are forever in view for the highly mobile road warrior. this one is right outside jacksonville nc. i remember a highway trooper pulling in behind my french easel, curious as to what i was up to. once he saw i was harmless and armed with only a paintbrush he left.

Its always funny to see how people react to artists working in public, they are always so curious!
youre so right.. i've been gawked at, jeered at, nearly arrested twice, and everything inbetween. the highway trooper had probably never seen anyone that would WANT to paint an overpass. come to think of it, that is weird *
i have enough stories about plein air painting i could fill a book. nothing weird has ever happened in my studio. maybe thats whats so exciting about painting outside!
